Social Psychology

      Social Psychology is the scientific study of how people's thoughtsfeelings,and  behaviors are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others.               Social psychologists examine factors that cause behaviors to unfold in a given way in the presence of others.
    Social psychologists study conditions under which certain behavior, actions, and feelings occur. Social psychology is concerned with the way these feelings, thoughts, beliefs, intentions, and goals are cognitively constructed and how these mental representations, in turn, influence our interactions with others.
     Social Environment AMEs work within a “system”. There are various factors within this system that impinge on the AMEs, ranging from his knowledge, skills and abilities, the environment in which he works, to the culture of the organisation for which he works. Even beyond the actual company he works for, the regulatory requirements laid down for his trade clearly impact on his behavior.  All aspects of this system may contribute towards errors that the engineer might make.
Responsibility begins from AM who formulates policy, through management that procedures, to supervisors, teams of engineers and individuals within those teams.

Responsibility: Individual and Group - Responsibility begins accountable manager who formulates policy, through management that set procedures, to supervisors, teams of engineers and individuals within those teams. Responsibility has been considered in terms of the individual rather than the group or team but in practice, assigned to groups or teams in the workplace.

Motivation  Motivation can be thought of as a basic human drive that arouses, directs and sustains all human behavior. Generally we say a person is motivated if he is taking action to achieve something.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs -  theories which attempts to describe human motivation is Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.             Maslow considered that humans are driven by two different sets of motivational forces:
• those that ensure survival by satisfying basic physical and psychological needs;
• those that help us to realise our full potential in life known as self-actualisation
needs (fulfilling ambitions, etc.).
Culture Issue
Organisational culture - Every organisation  employing AMEs will have different “ways of doing things”. They will have their own philosophy, policies, procedures, selection and training criteria, and quality assurance methods
         Organisational stresses may lead to problems of poor industrial relations, high turnover of staff, increased absenteeism, and most importantly for the aviation industry, more incidents and accidents due to human error.                                                                         Team Working     Management, Supervision and Leadership
